Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk history. The Sir William Wallace Hotel (affectionately called Wally of course) was set up in 1879 as one of many entertainment dens for workers of the ship-building and industrial industries of Balmain. The area has gentrified and the industry has waned, but as testament to how good it is, Wally is as popular as ever.

Named after the 13th Century Scottish knight, the pub has been a backdrop for several Australian TV shows and films, so takes its place in local history in many ways.
